Mother's Day was pretty special this year. Andrew asked me what I wanted to do for my special day and I said i wanted to swim with my baby and get some sun. Welp, the weather in Salt Lake was not complying so we started to think of quick trips we could take that would fit the bill. 

We decided on St. George which is about a 3.5 hour drive from Salt Lake and really was a solid 15-20 degrees warmer. Andrew found us a nice rental condo with two bedrooms but when we arrived they upgraded us to a huge 3 bedroom suite. It was perfect and Athena had a blast walking in and out of all the rooms and out on the completely fenced-in furnished patio. There was even a fireplace and table  and cozy patio furniture where we ate dinner later that night.

Uppon arrival we had a diaper situation that made things a little messy. Luckily the room had a washer and dryer too so We had to wash out the whole car seat and some of Athena's stuff. We were just happy that it happened at the end of the trip instead of in the beginning or middle. That would have stunk, quite literally.

Other than the blowout, Athena was a champ in the car for the whole drive. She napped for only 20 minutes of the whole thing! I thought for sure the car would put her to sleep but she was happy to just chat it up with us, look out the window and play with her cute little feet up in the air. 

On the way out we stopped at this beautiful state park called Sand Hollow. It has the prettiest red sand beach and the landscape was just so colorful. Like layer upon layer of color and then the clouds were showing off that day as well. Really just a beautiful scene to take in the beautiful weather.

A really beautiful weekend and I'm glad I'll have these pictures to remember my time with my sweet girl who made me a mama, the best job I've ever had.

Living in Salt Lake City, we have so many easy and fun places to take athena to just run around and be outside. There is no shortage of parks but we also have places like the Tracy Aviary within Walking distance. 

A few weekends ago we walked over to the Aviary which is situated on the perimeter of the already massive Liberty Park.  We especially like the Aviary because it's free admission for teachers and little ones so it cost under ten bucks for the whole family to visit.

Since I knew we were going to walk I wore this comfy outfit with sneakers to get us there. I love this ruffled top (down to just $19 right now) and bought it primarily for work but tried it out layered under my new favorite shortalls, and it totally worked. Totally made them feel a little more grown-up.

And just a little FYI, I did not put Athena in a Kate Spade dress to go to the aviary. this was her church outfit and anyone who knows what its like to fight an 18 month old in and out of an outfit knows it just ain't worth the wardrobe change.

Casual Tie Top

My favorite kind of outfits involve color and a little unexpected twists. This was a mix of distressed and athletic and a pop of color in with this cute little yellow strip tie top. I also love a neck scarf to add a little feminine touch. Sometimes the outfits that consist of the unexpected make for the most interesting pairings. 

This was worn for a little girls day I spent with my friend Sandy and her daughter while mine napped. We went to Decades which is my favorite vintage store in Salt Lake, to look for vintage scarves, We tried out Pretty Bird's Fried chicken sandwiches that didn't disappoint. If you're downtown in Salt Lake, I'd recommend giving both spots a visit!

Hope your week is off to a great start. I am getting my hair done later this week and am so ready for more of a chop. I've really grown to love my short hair and come to terms with the fact that I just don't have the kind of hair needed for long locks. Work with what you've got, right?

I almost forgot to post these pictures. The cherry blossoms being in bloom was so short lived that we went back the second weekend they were in their prime state and shot this cute summer jumpsuit (you know I love a jumpsuit) that I found at Forever 21.  We also shot some cute mother daughter pictures for a friend of ours too while there.

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned these shoes and their amazingness before but they are great dupes for the Chanel classics but these are only $150. They are also ridiculously comfortable!

These Pictures were taken after one of Athena's first blogger events. She came with to our friend Preston's store, Uptown Cheapskate in South Jordan and had a great time smiling at everyone and picking up any small objects on the floor. Over all she did a great job for a toddler in a store that was not contained in a stroller. 

After the event a few of my girlfriends and I popped over to Daybreak and took some outfit pictures. Naturally Athena was in mine because quite honestly what else am I going to do with her? Let her roam free? Ha! She definitely tried but my pal Jenni distracted her with the ducks in the pond. 

Overall, I try to take her out an about with me but we definitely have a small window of time on most things where we have to stay in a confined place, but that still doesn't mean we wont try to have a good time! And I sure get a workout in from chasing her. This little chick is FAST!

Sometimes it seems too good to be true that Utah has so many beautiful parks. This is just one of them. It's called the International Peace Gardens and it's full of picturesque spots and yet it's never super crowded so it's such a relaxing place to hang out. Andrew first took me here for a Mother's day picnic last year and we love going back whenever we can because Athena can run around.

This outfit was a little dressy for a weekend afternoon but since we were planning to go here, I knew the colors would look so pretty next to this gorgeous covered walkway.  This tee was a last minute grab on the way out of the mall. I spotted it out of the corner of my eye and it was $10 bucks so I figured why not. I love how it makes this dressy skirt a little more casual.
