Emma Pillsbury and I

Monday, November 19, 2012

Now that the sun is setting super early, Amy (my photog/blogger partner in crime) and I find ourselves chasing the sun after school before it sets to get a few good outfit shots. Needless to say our location options have become quite creative as you can see.

Last year I was lucky enough to snag this skirt on sale at Anthropologie. I then later saw it on Emma Pillsbury on Glee and was thrilled that my skirt was on TV! Her character and I have very similar taste in teacher attire. This is now, and will forever be known as my Emma Pillsbury pencil skirt. See how she wore it here on Glee!

This skirt has really great and slimming fold detailing

Orange screw-on studs that I think look very similar to the Kate Spade versions. These ones are from Grandma!

Weekend Wants: Black, White & and a Little Bit of Gold

Saturday, November 17, 2012

My favorite finds all week have a trend as you can see. Even though I'm usually all for bright and bold colors, something about the approaching winter season has me thinking in sleek black, snow whites and hints of glimmering gold!

What colors are you craving right now?

Storing and Displaying Jewels and Shoes

Friday, November 16, 2012

It's simple: you will wear your jewelry more often when you see it. If it's exposed, it's easy to grab and toss on. This is a no-brainer. But how does one have the space to do such a thing?

I wanted to have easy access to (and appreciate) all of my pretty finds, so I came up with this little corner. It's like my own private jewelry store!

This used to be a wasted little space behind our bedroom door that I never really knew what to do with. Then a few years back I decided to try out a peg board. It really has changed the way I pick my accessories in the morning as well as my ability to switch things up seasonally.

You might be wondering where the boots and gym shoes are. Mostly in the closet lined up on the floor and lined up under the bed as well. Purses and clothes are for another post altogether; if you are interested in that let me know in the comments!

First glance at my jewelry nook.

My jewelry peg board.

Buy your own at Home Depot and spray paint to the color of your liking. Then buy various peg board hooks to hang your jewels. The whole project cost me about 25 bucks. Also Home Depot will cut the board for you to whatever size you need!

Above the board are some cheap Ikea frames holding bits of leftover Paper Source paper.

This is where the high-wear rotation shoes live, behind the bedroom door. Things get a little dusty from the constant open exposure so I keep swiffer rags tucked inside a shoe for quick touch-ups.

Perfume is on the mirrored tray to the right which is placed there strategically so that as I leave I remember to put on perfume right before I go.

Some flats and thick belts hide under a table I found in the trash and whitewashed. The white box has lesser-worn earrings in it. Skinny belts are in a drawer across the room.

You can see the attachment with the horizontal "arm" is great for storing bracelets.

This little rolling chest was my grandmother's. My dad thought it looked like junk but I convinced him it was worth keeping. I loved all the scuffs and character it had. I got some new knobs from Anthropologie and it turned out even better than it started!

This tray stays next to my bed so that when I take off my studs at night I won't lose them.

And here is the best part: I close the door and it all just disappears. Like a hidden jewelry store in my own home!

Hope this helps you come up with some organizational ideas of your own!

Feeling French

Thursday, November 15, 2012

On a recent trip to Madewell I fell in love with this Parisienne Storyteller Scarf . This tends to happen whenever I go in that store! Their scarves are beautiful, unique and of such amazing quality. I hoped there would be a sale and I wouldn't be subjected to pay full price for my new love.

And then there behind a scarf rack was a sign for 25% off! True love? Oui!

Country Clubbin'

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

This past weekend I went to a friends bridal shower at a country club in the burbs. I tried my very best to channel my most country club look which meant I turned to J Crew's ladylike pieces. Would you believe I've had this skirt for almost 3 years now and had never worn it?

I even threw in grandmas old python print bag to keep the look classy and tie the shoes in with the rest of the outfit.

The crazy weather (hail, heavy rain & sunshine all in about 45 minutes) made for a really nice sunset too.
