Summer is coming to an end. A big end. Every summer as a teacher is so bittersweet but this time around it's way different.

So as most of you know, I was teaching in Chicago in 2015 but had to leave 3 months into the school year to move here to SLC. NOTHING I've experienced in teaching is heartbreaking then leaving a group of kids you absolutely adore. I seriously cried the entire last day as current students and former students came to visit, drop off cards and come wish me well. It was all so bitter sweet and certainly a different dynamic than leaving the last day of school in the summer. Then, the kids are just as ready to go as you are, but mid November is a different story.

So you've heard about the end, but what about the beginning?  It's such an exciting time for both the teachers and students. I know so many teachers who have trouble sleeping the night before a new school year begins, and even more who have dreams about school as the summer comes to a close.

Now here I am, two school years later, going back after the biggest career break of my life! I'll be at a brand new school, well kind of. I was subbing there before I was pregnant and at the beginning of my pregnancy until I was too sick to continue. I'll be going back to a classroom that I had subbed in many times and loved, so the comfort level is already pretty great.  I seriously can't wait to get back to it. To have a routine, and structure to my day is something I thrive on so I'm looking forward to having that back in my life. I love packing lunches and meal planning for the week. It's even more fun now that I get to pack Athena's tiny breakfasts and lunches too!

So while all of you are sending your kids back to school thinking how nervous you are for them, just know on the other side there is a teacher who is just as anxious to meet them, teach them and start their little happy classroom community! I'm ready to fall hard for my new 4th graders!

Romper: Victoria Beckham for Target (Sold out) // Scarf: Vintage (this one is my fav right now // Bag: Nordstrom Rack (love this similar one) // Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters // Sandals

On Athena: Romper: Gap (last season but this one is this years version)

This new bakery opened in our hood and I wasn't excited for the reason you may think. Sure some sweets are reason for excitement but they had this super cute mural painted out front! You all know I love a fun wall so I decided it was time to pull out this Victoria Beckham for Target romper so I could color coordinate with the poppy mural out in front of the bakery accordingly named Poppies!

I've had a lot of friends ask me about my vintage neck scarves so I'm going to share with you a few tips. I NEVER pay more than $7 for a vintage scarf! I find them at vintage stores in bins or clipped to clothing rack ends. I also find them at lots of outdoor flea markets. Usually they run me about $3! I try to keep the colors close to things I already own but I love bright ones like this one that offer a great pop of color. They are so simple to wear too, I swear! I think this is the part that people fear the most, they think they are doing it wrong. All I do is fold diagonally and then fold inwards from the top corner so that I'm left with a long strip with the tip tucked all the way inside. Tie it high around your neck, tie it loose, tip it to the side, tie it uneven so one end is longer than the other, all of these work for me! I swear they are way easier to pull off than you think! So stop envying the neck scarf people of the world and become one yourself!

American Eagle Overalls (similar) // Forever 21 Cape (love this one from the Limited's Scandal collection) //Vintage scarf (grandmas) // Target long sleeve tee shirt // Zara slippers // Michael Kors "Bradshaw" Watch // Double sided pearl earrings // Kate spade cross body bag (from the new Nordstrom Rack South Loop store. Similar here)

This cape is probably my best Forver 21 find of them all. It looks like a million bucks but didn't cost over $40! I found it last year so It's no longer avaliable (but they do have this cute one right now) but I did gather up some of my favorite cape coats out there for you to shop.

And in case you were wondering what the beauties on the other side of the lens look like, here they are. My bestie and her adorable little assistant may have found their calling as a fashion photog duo.
