A little while back before we moved I warned you all that my style was about to take a change for the more comfortable. Here it is. In real life. I wore this Saturday morning to go workout at my Bar Method studio, run some errands with my husband.

This is pretty much what every day looks like. While I can't complain about the comfort level, I am a little sad when I walk past my pretty shoe collection and kind of even wish to wear jeans. It's quite an adjustment from teacher life.

What would you wear after 11 years of dressing up for work every day?

Hopefully soon I'll find a new school to teach in and I'll be back to my old pencil skirt wearing ways, Till then I'm embracing the lack of dress code and reveling in the comfort.

Workout Wednesday: Casual Sneakers

Wednesday, April 16, 2014

This is the very first time ever that all the shots for today's post were taken with my IPhone! You see I'm on spring break so although that leaves me with no photographer to take outfit shots, it also leaves me with a very good reason to NOT get dressed in anything more than workout clothes!

Since this week is so casual I needed shoes to match. I don't like wearing my running shoes just to walk around so I needed some "walking-around" shoes! While making a return to the newly opened Nordstrom Rack on North Avenue (free parking!) I discovered it's pristine shoe selection with an abundance of pink Nike options! All under $60 too! My heart skipped a beat!

I finally decided on these black canvas ones with a faint blush trim to replace my beloved yet salt-stained Nike Victoria's, and the hot pink and raspberry pair below! If you are in the market for some new casual shoes stop over there before the place looses it new-store-smell and turns into a disaster! Selection is great right now! Happy shopping!

Workout Wednesday

You know I love color, and I really think one of the best and easiest places to play with color is in your workout wear. I live by a no-rules motto when it comes to how I put together my workout attire. In fact sometimes the more colors/patterns I can squeeze into one outfit, the better.

This is a fine example with this green and gray combo. The tank is striped, the pants are two-tone and then you have these crazy blue socks. They may look a little loud but I don't mind because they actually serve a purpose. They are the newest color of the official Bar Method grippy socks that they sell in the studio. Basically I only ever buy their expensive socks when I have forgotten my own. I'm not gonna lie, they are way more comfy and helpful in preventing my feet from sliding and heels from aching on the bar with their tiny cushion backs. So I'll gladly display them as a little "feet treat".

Workout Wednesday

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Thank you to everyone who gave feedback on last weeks Workout Wednesday post. Since you guys are game, so am I! Here's installment number two!

Here is a workout look I wore to my Bar Method class. Wearing layers to workout in was an adjustment for me from my normal less-clothes-the-better hot yoga outfits. With Bar Method I barely sweat at all. This is one of the things I love about this class because my naturally curly hair doesn't get ruined and I can still go out in public after a workout without looking like a drowned rat!

Since joining Bar Method I've had to invest in alot more long sleeve layers to wear to classes. I tried on this great white half zip hoodie at Lululemon but thought I could probably find something pretty comparable at TJ Maxx or Marshalls since it was just plain white. If you don't know already those two places are great for workout clothes under $30!

As a rule of thumb at Lululemon, I will only splurge on a great colored piece or some super basic black leggings I'll wear forever . But for just a plain white hoodie, I couldn't justify the $98 price tag.

Sure enough this micro fleece lined half-zip hoodie was found at TJ Maxx for just $19 and looks pretty darn similar to the Lulu one don't you think?

Workout Wednesday

I know you are used to seeing me in all my work-appropriate teacher looks. But today, I thought it would be nice to share another part of my fashion life with my readers.

Working out is a huge part of my life, and I'm usually in looks like you see below six days a week. And of course, I try to make sure that my workout clothes are just as cute as my daytime clothes.

So today, I thought it would be fun to try to capture some of those looks to share on the blog, pre-drenched-in-sweat of course!

I love to try out new classes and make new friends in the Chicago fitness scene. I've had such great experiences with so many of my workouts in Chicago.  I met my lady loves that we all call the "yoga lobas" whom I met a few years back during Hot Yoga Sculpt classes.

As some of you may know from past blog collaborations, I am a huge WERQ Dance Fitness fan! I love the fun and energetic teachers that just force you to smile through the sweat and squats!

Most recently I've added in Bar Method classes. These are especially addicting with their 21-classes-in-30-days challenge - going on now - where full-grown adults get to fill in a sticker chart for each completed class!

I also love being a healthy-living role model for my students, both in my own example and by serving as coach for my school's division of Girls on the Run in the spring.

Would you be interested in seeing more from my fitness and health ideas here on Hot Pink Style? Feedback welcomed in the comments below - I'd love to know!

Temple of Apollo

Tuesday, August 13, 2013

One of my favorite adventures from our honeymoon was hiking to the top of the Temple of Apollo. From far away it looks massive and like such a rough hike, but much like getting to the top of the Acropolis in Athens, it wasn't that bad.

Once you get up there, my oh my how the perspective changes. The ocean is just breathtaking from every which way you looked at it. It was just so blue and expansive. One side of the temple was more of a cliff which you can see me perched on below (yes I was scared) and the other was easier to hike down and on a more walkable incline. It took us down to the clearest little pool. It was crazy to have this calm little spot just a few feet away from the violent ocean. It was such a beautiful contrast and one of my favorite spots we found on the trip.

On the way back up we found little puddles of sea salt that dried up from when the tide went out. If only I brought a zip lock baggie maybe I wouldn't have to spend so much on sea salt at Whole Foods back in Chicago!

Anyway, enjoy another photo-heavy post from the Temple of Apollo in Naxos. And if you like some good workout fashion then this post is for you.

Dont forget to check all the way at the bottom for some SALE info!!

A view on the walk over to the temple. Just look how clear that water is! This ain't Lake Michigan, kids!

The Temple of Apollo from a distance.

A cute little bit of shoreline at the foot of the temple.

A view backwards from the part of town we just came in from. I loved the little beach area to the right.

How incredible is this view? Just amazing.

 Almost to the top!

 The Temple of Apollo!

We actually managed to find other people to take our picture. You may notice we didn't have much company up there.

 Just being silly.

Eek! Yeah that freaks me out just looking at it!

My pretty little crystal-clear pool right next to the sapphire blue ocean! The contrast was just so awesome!

Tank and headband: Lululemon

On a completely unrelated note, anyone who feels like doing a little shopping, Piperlime is offering 20% off sale merchandise with code TREAT til the end of today. There are some really great dresses (like this one that I picked up in NYC that is now on sale) at amazing prices so get over there and shop TODAY!

NY: Part 2: Mind Over Madness

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

I know I'm on vacation, but I wasn't the least bit upset when my alarm went off at 6 a.m.! In fact I was awake a bit before the alarm. Much like kids on Christmas morning, my friend Amanda and I were so excited to get downstairs (literally steps from our hotel door) and get our spots for the sunrise yoga class!

It's kind of crazy how when you wake up early, you feel like no one else is up. But then you go outside and turn the corner, you can find something like this happening! Pretty cool!

This is really what the yoga community is all about: coming together to share a love of yoga even if it is among strangers, in crazy places, at early hours.

The summer solstice marked the first day of summer and the longest day of light. To start summer off with a celebration like this was truly amazing!

*Tomorrow's post will feature the rest of the day's shopping bonanza (back to the fashion soon, I promise)!

Later that day we got tickets for Phantom of the Opera at that tkts booth!

One final rest to wrap up the practice.

Who's excited to go next year??
