Dress:Topshop (on sale for 50% off making it $44) // Bag: c/o Vera Bradley // Shoes: Nine west (literally had them since I was 19 years old!)

Everyone keeps asking me how it's going being back to work so here it is, a little life update on how we are doing and how we are making it work.

Short answer, It's great. I love being back in a routine. I don't know how it's possible but getting up at 5 before the baby and working out before school is actually easier than waking up with her at like 7:30 like I used to. How is that even possible?? I think some people just do better with a routine and I am definitely one of them.

Speaking of working out, guys, you know I love taking classes, but I'm full-on obsessed with my new Pilates studio, Core Body Pilates. I seriously have gone every day except 3 since I started going there over a month ago. I'm hooked. I love reformer pilates classes because no two classes are ever the same. Honestly, it feels like no two moves even are ever the same either! There are literally hundreds of exercises you can do on a reformer and I am loving all the variety. The instructors are fun and motivating and the location, for me, can't be beat. It's just down the street and there is a Starbucks right next door! It's like the perfect combination to start my morning. I've been mixing my protein shake in my iced black grande (in a venti cup) and it's the perfect solution to getting both in! I'm also sticking with the 6AM classes because I just don't think I'd have the time or energy to do them after Athena goes to sleep and it's nice knowing my workout is done before my day even really begins. It's like I'm sneaking in a little me time before the day starts.

As for teaching, everything is pretty great. No complaints here. I've only had students for 7 days but so far, so good. Classroom is all set up and I'm still trying to remember where I put everything. Soon enough it will be organized perfection, just the way I like it!

The hardest part so far has been not seeing Athena as much. Some mornings she sleeps past when I leave for work and I don't get to see her at all in the morning. Although it's good for her dad because he can sleep in a little, I still wish I could see her. Andrew is training for a race so he runs her in the jogging stroller to school and I pick her up and the stroller as soon as I'm done with work. I was so used to waking up with her every day and getting her ready. Athena is such a good sleeper at night (usually between 12-13 hours) that she is still sleeping after I get home from my workout and STILL after I shower and get ready! I hate not getting to see her before I leave, but I'd rather her be rested for her day because when she is at daycare she is little Miss social and only sleeps for 30-45 mins tops, so she needs her night sleep to prep! When I go pick her up she is a happy little zombie and falls asleep in the car before I can get 3 blocks away! She likes to party all day and sleep all night.

It is pretty darn nice to have a paycheck again too. I have been more careful with how I was spending the last year and a half without a consistent steady income but now that I saw cash in my account, I finally treated myself to a few little things I've wanted for awhile. Some for me and some for Athena, of course.

I picked up this top I have in blue, but wanted in white as well, this super soft thermal, this cleansing oil from Primally Pure because my friend Blair has been using it and her skin is looking gorgeous. Maybe it's just her pregnancy glow but if it's sold in a bottle, I'm down to try! Especially when it's a super natural product. I had my eye on this BURU dress for months and it went on sale for 60% off so I finally scooped it up. I ordered Athena some super cute winter stuff from Zara and 2 pairs of Freshly Picked shoes (on sale all this week!) since she's WALKING now!! Also, I have been in love with my friend Ashley's Victoria Beckham  highlighter in Modern Mercury for months now and it finally got rereleased last week so I jumped on that as soon as she told me it was out! I also picked up two cute teacher dresses from one of my favorite online boutiques, Something Sunny. That sounds like alot when I put it all down but man, I deserved it!

I'm back, everyone! I feel pumped and ready to meal prep, pack lunches, consistently work out and go to bed EARLY! I'm so happy I'm done with school at 3:30 and I can still have a few hours with Athena. Now all I need is for it to not be in the 90's so I can show you the outfits I'm wearing to work without being a sweaty mess after school. Hopefully the Fall temps will kick in soon here in SLC.

While in Salt Lake city this summer, we found this book bindings wall randomly behind the parking garage of our hotel. What is a treasure like that doing hidden behind a building? Am I right?

What we did find out very fast in SLC is that many places (especially ones with really cool walls) are considered private property and apparently this one was. Oops! Good thing we got a few shots in before we got booted out by a real live person! So different from Chicago.

Anyway, On to the clothes. I found this Marc Jacobs dress at Nordstrom Rack in the summer but it was the only one left and just a tad too short on me. Lucky for me (and every nordstrom cardholder) they do tailoring for their customers and were able to bring the hem down a solid inch and a half making this dress perfect for me!

Shoes: Topshop // Tank: Old Navy // Jacket: Sanctuary via Nordstrom Rack (similar here & here )// Jeans: Blank NYC c/o Shopbop // Purse: Zara (old, but I love this bright red one that I have in white)

Doesn't this little white bomber jacket look super luxe? I have my Nordstrom Rack aficionado friend to thank for it. I was spending some time doing some summer shopping with my friend Olivia at her favorite store, The Rack, and we both found this jacket and tried it on. I think she totally should have gotten it too but she changed her mind. She is always free to borrow mine though.

Sometimes you need a friend to push you into different stores otherwise you can get caught in a shopping rut. I find myself always gravitating towards the same few stores, Zara, Forever 21 and H&M but she helps me bring out that inner sale digger that I'm usually not. In the end it brought me to this cute jacket for under $40 bucks and a few cute underthings that were pretty darn affordable too.

What stores have you been branching out to lately. I'm recently in a bit of a love affair with Athleta (sorry Lululemon) because they have such comfy and affordable pieces like this dress I got for my back to school wardrobe and this long sleeve work out top in the prettiest shade of lavender.

I'm so happy spring is near because I've been trying to work in all the pastels I can this winter but it's becoming increasingly easier to get them all lined up for Spring with all the stellar options coming out. I'm particularly loving all things blush and powder blue. This Minkoff bag I got at the beginning of the winter will transition perfectly into spring, but I'm still craving one of these new pastel numbers as well.

And if you are loving this scarf as much as I do, It's sold out online but I saw a ton of them last week at the Topshop on Michigan Avenue.

I have an addiction of the worst kind. Coats. More specifically winter coats. Don't get me wrong, in a place as cold for half the year as Chicago is, I get lots of use out of all of them. The real problem is storage. I had to build a whole extra closet just to house them all.

To make matters worse I added this pretty powder blue wool Zara number to the mix. I can honestly say that I didn't own a pastel coat and have really wanted to add one to my winter wardrobe for awhile now. I'm so happy I found this one. Too bad its part of the new line at Zara and wasn't included in their fabulous sale going on now.

Speaking of sale I got this top on sale at H&M in the sale section for $15 bucks! I also picked up this pencil skirt with a cute little zipper on the back slit. These midi length pencil skirts that have been all over this fall/winter are perfect for me since most skirts usually run so short. The extra length also gives some added warmth which is a plus.

Weekend Shopping Finds

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

I had an incredible weekend at a Blogger Brunch at the Four Seasons, but more on that later.

After the event, I was left with time to spare on Michigan Ave. What is a girl to do? Oh wait, I know, shop!

There was a great sale going on at J. Crew (where I picked up numbers 1-4 below in the sale section for 40% off the sale price and an extra 15% off with my teacher discount! I had been coveting those shorts for a while now and love the silk crepe fabric since its the same as the J. Crew pleated skirt I already own in three colors from a few years back! And how do I turn down cute tees like this with my recent graphic tee obsession?

LOFT was having their teacher appreciation sale, so I could finally give in and pick up this paisley outfit below that I think looks exactly like a romper (which I am also obsessed with right now).

The striped crop top with the flower edges was too cute to pass up at Topshop.

Lastly, my drawstring purse search has come to a close with this tan bag arriving in the mail when I got home.

Pretty great weekend with a lot of great deals!

Mad for Plaid

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

This skirt has everything a tall girl like me could want. It's longer length and stretchy tube constrution make it the easiest skirt in my closet to wear this winter. Just add tights and boots!

TopShop must have realized they struck gold with this style so they made it in a variety of colors and patterns. And the best part is that when Topshop runs out of a size there is now a back up plan! Nordstrom's Topshop capusle line alsmost always has what they have sold out of at the Topshop website/store.

Black (faux-leather) Friday

Friday, November 23, 2012

Today is the most insane shopping day of the year if you are a bargain hunter. I love a good bargain as much as the next girl, but I don't think I've ever looked forward to the craziness of Black Friday!

If you are brave enough to venture out today, good luck and be safe!

So onto the fashion. I can't tell you how many times I almost donated these boots but something always made me change my mind. Glad I kept them around because I think they pair great with my faux-leather Topshop leggings!

I picked up this long tee at old navy and this vest at Akira last weekend after sadly having no luck at the Randolph Street Vintage Market. This vest has turned out to be a great find though and has been in heavy rotation.

Check my Face book page for Cyber Monday deals and all the discount codes/sale alerts I can round up!
