It's starting to seem like all I do is wear plaid. Tis the season I suppose. Today's look is a super teachery take on the plaid trend, but there are so very many other ways to pull off this cold-weather staple. I've been loving Old Navy's plaid flannel tops that I've worn with both pencil skirts and jeans, They also make for great layering pieces for a pop of color under an otherwise ordinary sweater (love this one on clearance for $18). I've even gone so far as to incorporate plaid into my outerwear with this plaid moto jacket!

I've got a little plaid round-up from bags (how cute is that duffle bag?!) to shoes to help you jump aboard the plaid trend!

Diego is a miracle worker. I've seen him turn some seriously damaged hair into a silky soft dream! If you want to see for yourself just check out his Instagram packed with before and after pictures, mostly girls with long ombre hair of my dreams.

He made me the promise that he could color match my red with less harsh dyes than I had been using in hopes that my hair would grow! And just in case you are in shock right now, no I am not a natural redhead!

Diego uses super gentle organic dyes that are both good for your hair and the environment. My red took years to find the perfect shade so I wasn't  entirely convinced it could be matched, but I gave him a shot at it. Turns out after only 3 sample strand tests, he found a perfect match!

If you are looking for someone to help you achieve what seems to be the impossible when it comes to your hair, go see Diego in Lakeview at RefleKTion Salon! Mention that Jill from Hot Pink Style sent you and get $25 off your first service!

The Perfect Black Sweater

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

Finding the perfect black sweater you can throw on top of anything is harder than it looks. You know  when you see it that it's right. That was just the feeling that I had when I came across this unique and drapey sweater.

I've wore it with a leather pencil skirt, over a dress and even threw it over my pajamas when I was cold one night. Truly a multitasker in my closet. Who am I kidding, this sweater hasn't even made it to the the closet. It's out on my ottoman waiting to be thrown on at a moments notice.

Where did you find your perfect black sweater? Do tell!

Shades of Fall

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Layers are a must in the Windy City, and what better way to add a layer of warmth than an infinity scarf!

This one simply had to be mine because it's the perfect neutral to compliment my hair color. Also it has a 50/50 knit pattern mix which adds a richness to the texture and makes it feel like you are getting two scarves in one. I was in love from the moment i tried it on. Expect to be seeing it a lot through the winter.

Want to know where you can get your own infinity scarf in your perfect shade? Bevello!

Check back Friday for an exciting announcement for all you Chicago ladies out there. This is going to be fun!

A New Fall Favorite

Monday, November 4, 2013

This Zara coat is quickly becoming an easy fall favorite. And that's not easy because I'm kind of a coat junkie. I think I have a problem. Really. Well at least my closet does.

By the way, these mittens are filled with soft fuzzy wonderfulness. Hustle on over to Target and grab a pair while you still can! They also come in regular glove with-finger options.

Last Night in Naxos

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

Our last night in Naxos was bittersweet but we made the most of it. It began with a stroll into the square where I got to experience tiny fish nipping at the dead skin on my feet (very attractive thought, I know - see the pictures below). I'm not really sure why I thought this would be a good idea considering I have very ticklish feet. Let's just say it was a very long 15 minutes, but fun! Glad I can say that I tried it and made it through. Definitely an experience!

After that we walked around the square a bit and went into some of the shops where I purchased my only fashion-related item of the whole trip (shocking, right?), a really cute striped skirt that you will see in a Santorini post coming up!

We then waked down to the waterfront where we had the best of our Naxos dinners. I had a salad that changed my world, which was basically just red and white cabbage shaved with greek dressing (olive oil and yummy vinegar). It's all I've been eating for lunch since I got back. Goodbye lettuce!

After that we went through the old market which is just a jumble of narrow, winding alleyways lined with shops. It's what I imagine shopping is like in a mall made of caves.

Tomorrow's post holds pictures from the most magical place we visited on our trip, Santorini. Can't wait to show it to you!

Kelly, Cobalt & Lilac

Monday, May 20, 2013

My hair is at this awkward stage in the growing-out phase where it's not doing anything I want it to do.

I decided to try to distract everyone's attention away from my non-compliant hair with a brightly colored outfit. Did it work? Can you tell that my attempt to curl my hair failed miserably? I hope not.

Has anyone else had this problem? This "in-between"-length hair and no idea what to do with it? I'd love some suggestions.
