You Are Here! Welcome Baby Athena!

Thursday, November 24, 2016

Push Play!
My final pregnant outfit post also comes with the best announcement. Here she is everyone! After many weeks of sickness and discomfort, Athena Marie Welhouse came into our lives on November 4th at 11:51AM weighing in at 6lbs 12oz! I still can't believe such a petite little girl came from me!

She is just the cutest sweetest baby around although I may be a little biased.

She is just over two weeks old now and we are having so much fun getting to know her. I hear from so many people that I need to try to enjoy her and that she will grow up so fast so that's why I've been kind of MIA over here. The blog can wait but Athena is growing every day which is why I chose to make her my priority. It's taken me until just now to figure out when to have time away from her to blog. Turns out that time is 2 am while she's asleep and I'm pumping! Multitasking y'all!

Since I am a little late to welcoming her over here on the blog, I want to remind you that you can always see lots of our daily life on my Instagram story and also on snapchat (username HOTPINKSTYLE). If you like baby snuggles, I suggest you start following, because we do a lot of that over there!

I am just about done writing her birth story; that will be my next post so stay tuned for that. Til then, here is an outfit from a few days before she was born and some sweet pictures of her I took from her first week.

Stripes during pregnancy are pretty much the only time in your life where you will think to yourself, "do these stripes make me look bigger" and be perfectly ok with the answer being, yes.

I loved the striped dress I wore for our maternity photos so much, and this dress kind of reminded me of it, so I got it. It says it's maternity but there is no side darts or anything that makes it overtly maternity so I think I'll be wearing this after baby as well.

So, How pretty is this backdrop? I had my SLC baby shower earlier that day and but the time I got home, I was shocked to find that I was still actually feeling ok! When that happens, Andrew scoops me up and drives us up into the mountains to see how pretty fall is here. These were taken at the end of September and while the trees scream fall, the snow on the ground makes it look very much like winter. This mix of seasons was so cool and the sunset was incredible. You can see it below! What a beautiful place we decided to live!

Driving around in the Canyons has become our new favorite hobby since in not in hiking condition anymore.  It's so beautiful this time of year and there is so much to see every time we go somewhere new. The colors of the trees are changing and it's a pretty spectacular way to experience our first fall here in SLC. I can't wait till next fall when we can take Athena with us on foot for some hiking.

This dress and scarf are both from Le Tote, who I've been collaborating with through these last 3 months of my pregnancy and I have TONS to say on that topic. Full review coming soon, but right now there is a little lady kicking and squirming in my belly and I'm going to have to quit there. Man, these last few weeks are going to be hard to blog, but I'll do my best to keep bringing you fresh content.

How to Accidentally Insult a Pregnant Woman

Dress (non-maternity) // Shirt (on sale for $13!) // Sandals // Necklace (old Anthropologie) // Pin

This Rachel Roy dress has been keeping me comfy and covered throughout this pregnancy. It's not maternity but has this gathered side that really works for accommodating the growing bump. It also comes in a bunch of colors but I'm partial to this shade of blue. Not to mention it's made of a silky cotton that makes it feel way fancier than it really is.

I wore it out to check out the Washington School House Hotel in Park City for a possible babymoon destination. While in Park City we made a quick stop in the J. Crew factory to stock up on some button-downs to prepare for the cold months ahead where I will need easy nursing options. I noticed that next door was a Motherhood Maternity outlet shop. I decided to check it out and ended up totally wishing I didn't.

Let me tell you about an employee at a maternity store who may have been accidentally insulting pregnant women for her entire job. I sure know she insulted me, so I'm sure she's been doing it for a while now.

So I found a pair of pajama pants on the clearance rack, and let's be real, that's pretty much the extent of my maternity pants needs at this point. For seven bucks, I'll grab a pair of comfy pants to sleep in. I took a pair of gray and then a full price pair of the same ones in black to the fitting room with me. I quickly realized I didn't care enough to spend $13 more on the darker color so I went with the $7 option. I walked up to the counter, and you know what the woman behind the register said?

"Oh, did nothing else fit?"

Seriously??? There are probably about 40 other ways she could have handled that, but she chose the most insulting way to greet me. Then, she continues to dig the hole a little deeper. "Well you look like you're about to pop any minute. When are you due?"

Again, really? My response this time was a little more aggravated so I said "actually, I still have about two more months to go."

I must say, if there is anywhere in all the land where some sensitivity training should take place, it's when you interact solely with pregnant women. We are quite the sensitive bunch, especially when you accidentally insult us. TWICE. I really don't think she meant to insult me but, jeez, the choices of words where like the worst ever.

Tell me, am I being oversensitive or would you have wanted to punch this woman as well?

These Pictures were taken on my last day in Chicago, right before meeting some old blogger friends for dinner. I had really wanted to go see this wall while I was there because Flamingos hold a special place in my heart.

My dad, many moons ago, used to own race horses and his very favorite race course was Hialeah, and I used to love that the flamingos they had on the course grounds. Although I don't remember wearing it, I know I had a little pink jockey uniform from there as a baby. I've seen pictures of me wearing it. It's a great memory I have along with many others from my dads love of horse racing.

In fact if you've seen my living room tour, you may have seen a framed #5 right by my front door. People often ask me why it's there and I tell them it's because it's my favorite number. But the reason it's my favorite, my dad would ask me what horse I thought would win a race and every time I would pick number 5. It's so predictable that when I would do the pick a number 1-10 with my students to find a quick way of getting out of a tie, the ones who knew that about me always won when they picked 5!

So there you go, way more nostalgia than fashion in today's post but now you get why I couldn't leave Chicago without visiting this wall. And thanks so much to my lovely friend Ashley for coming with me to make it happen.

As you may know from my recent posts on social media, Andrew and I have been traveling alot. Most of it not together unfortunately, but as of this week I'm staying put and resting till this baby is born. Traveling so much pregnant is super exhausting!

The first leg of our travels was a family trip to Las Vegas. My side of the family meets there every summer and this was the first time ever that we lived close enough to just drive there! The drive is very scenic and there are cool places to stop and enjoy the views along the way.

This spot, Kolob Canyon,  we discovered the first time we drove out to Las Vegas about a month ago and wanted to stop at again because we liked it so much. Isn't it beautiful. The best part is it's only a few minutes off the highway so it barely takes any time to get there.

I've got so much more to share from our trips which include some really awesome murals we found in downtown Las Vegas as well as some fun stuff from Chicago and my baby shower there! Stay tuned while I sort through it all to show you!

H&M Flowy Maxi Dress

H&M has been putting out these super cheap (usually around $19) dresses that are perfect for summer. The only problem I can find is that the sizing is all jacked up. This dress is a size 2? Guess what everyone, I'm NOT a size two! This was the smallest size it came in but it sure is comfy with the bump. On the other hand these lace up shoes are comfy but it's only a matter of time till I can't reach my feet to tie them! I swore I would only buy/wear slip on sandals this summer...so that's going well! Haha.

These pictures were taken on our drive to Las Vegas over Memorial day Weekend. The night before I was so sick I couldn't tolerate being in my house for one more day! I was so fed up that we hit the road for a quick one-night trip to Vegas, since its just a 5 hr drive! This was just off the highway. It sure makes a 5 hour drive go by fasters when the scenery is this pretty.
