This LOFT off-the-shoulder dress is pretty much the perfect summer date dress. It's light weight, and easy to wear and the french hen print adds a touch of fun!  Overall I felt pretty glamourous in it, which is why I wore it for our 15 year anniversary dinner date. While I was getting ready for dinner, my husband walked in the room and told me, "by the way, we aren't staying here (at home) tonight". If you saw my post here, you know exactly where we stayed, and boy was it fantastic.

The first step in having a great date night is feeling your best, and LOFT helped me do just that. A few weeks back I had the opportunity to shop and chat with LOFT's style director Amanda Kraemer at the Michigan Avenue store. We walked around for all of about 20 seconds before she picked this super on-trend off-the-shoulder dress and swore it would look perfect on me. She was totally right. I didn't even need to try anything else on, I was hooked. She was also wearing this very belt and I just had to add it on as the finishing detail! It's been getting a ton of use with my jeans and shorts so far this summer!

LOFT always has great summer pieces at super affordable prices, this dress being a prime example ringing in at under $100! Shop some of my current favorites below!

As my first official day of summer vacation, I told myself I would do absolutely nothing. So much for that. Instead it turned into me doing 7 loads of laundry and cleaning every inch of the house. And if that wasn't enough, I then went to work out too. I just can't stop myself. I'm so used to waking up at 5AM and moving at such a fast pace, it's hard to slow down. Talk to me in a few weeks though and I'll have gotten much better at the art of sleeping in.

Until then, I'm catching up on posts that should have gone up weeks ago, but I'm just now getting a chance to share.

This marks the last week of school without students. The best part is that I can wear all my super comfy clothes to school for these days with just teachers. The worst part is that I miss my students. They were such a great bunch so I'm actually going to miss them this summer. I think I'll get over it when I realize how great it is to not wake up at 5AM every day!

I wore this outfit to school yesterday after my short trip to NYC this past weekend. I picked up this short sleeve sweatshirt at one of my favorite stores in Soho, Aritzia! I saw a girl in the fitting room wearing it and knew I had to have it. Cozy chic perfection. I grabbed it for my friend Olivia too and she loved it so much she got it too! Even better, we both wound up wearing it yesterday in pretty much identical outfits!  You know it's good when it's the first thing you grab to wear right after you bought it!

I paired it with my favorite high-waisted Lululemon leggings and my newest handbag that I also picked up in the Rebecca Minkoff studio in Soho. Can you tell we did some shopping? I have this same style bag in a light putty color but I've had my eye on the black one for so long now that when the salesman told me it was 15% off and I got a free clutch with purchase, I just had to cave. Besides, my husband told me to get myself something if I found something I liked. Twist my Arm...

I'm happy to be back and sleep in my own bed. We did a TON of walking and even two workouts while there! Not your average vacation, so some rest is needed.

In case you haven't heard, The off the shoulder trend is hot right now. I have always been a fan and am super happy that their are tons of options out there as far as off the shoulder tops (love this affordable one) and dresses go. I'm loving this off the shoulder LOFT dress (now 40% off) I wore for a date with my husband last weekend.

The dress you see here was purchased at the beginning stages of this spring. I had to wait so long to even think about wearing it. What is up with our weather? It's either cold out, or gross and humid. I'm not too fond of either since neither are fun to dress for in June!

In other news, this weekend I go to NYC for my 4th annual "Mind Over Madness" yoga event in Times Square. I'm super excited to go and do some yoga on the street and a whole lot of shopping. The bummer of it all is that School is still going because of all the "cold days" CPS had that have now forced our school year to go into next week which means I have to come back Sunday night to be at work in the morning! At least tomorrow will be the last day with students which is a relief because it's been so hectic. The kids are just as ready, if not more ready for break as the teachers! Summer fever is in the air for sure!

Keep up with me in NYC on Instagram. Have a great weekend!

Chicago Athletic Association: A Look Inside our Stay

Wednesday, June 10, 2015

Over the weekend my husband surprised me with a little staycation at the amazing new Chicago Athletic Association Hotel that opened last week. I must say, the surprise was super easy to keep considering I didn't even know it had opened. As a major lover of things with some serious Chicago history (one of the reasons our wedding was in Jackson Park) this place did not disappoint.

Every corner was filled with so many masculine, athletic-inspired and vintage details. It was serious fun exploring this place and a pleasure to spend a night there. I honestly took so many pictures on my phone, there was just no way I could post them on social media. So needles to say I had quite enough on my phone to give you a full inside look at our stay.

Lets start from the beginning, shall we?

This is the street-level lobby with intricate tile floors and this insanely beautiful staircase!

This antique gym floor is the wall of the elevator! How cool is that? It even smelled kind of like and old gym...but in a good way, if that makes any sense at all.

This padded wall, much like the ones in the gym at my school (but these were waaaay cooler) made for such an interesting seating area. This was tucked away around some corner.

Walking into the lobby is pretty overwhelming! It's like walking into the past!

This mural hangs above the check in counter. The staff here was super friendly. (Hey Phil at the front desk!)

This sprawling lobby isn't lacking seating...or pillows for that matter!

I loved all this old leather seating. Its all perfectly worn and aged! Just beautiful!

This little fireplace-adjacent nook was the perfect place to cozy up before heading to our room.

There was shuffle board calling our names in the bar on 2!

There's also a bocce court ready to jump into in the bar/ gameroom! This is totally where all big kids in the city should go to play games!

Cindy's
Behind the bar at Cindy's on the 13th floor. The vibe in here is super chill. It's not all dark, loud and stuffy like some bars can be. And the view off the patio balcony can't be beat!

Cindy's
Need I say more. Check out this view of Millennium Park.

Cindy's
Off the balcony and looking back into Cindy's.

Our room had this vintage looking clock radio that was playing folk music uppon arrival.

This shower is what bathroom dreams are made of!

So I'm a big fan of hotel robes, but these were on another level. They were fleece! We got to lounge in sweatpants robes you guys!

The gym class inspired pull up bar in the room was a nice touch. I hung from the top to check and make sure it was legit.

This bedding needs to be for sale. Across the bottom it reads "I miss everything about Chicago. Except January and February."

Marble vanity with some of my date night details.

navy, pier, fireworks
The view of the fireworks from our window was pretty convenient. We didn't even have to get out of bed, but that doesn't mean I didn't jump up in the window box and watch!

On our way out in the morning.

We had an amazing stay and will be back to enjoy that rooftop view in the summer. Now, who wants to join us?
